28.4.06 TSLM “tails up” at the AGM TSLM’s second Annual General Meeting (25th April) turned out to be anything but boring as Committee members reported on our activities over the last year and set out plans for the future. Those enthusiastic members and supporters who turned off the European Cup soccer on TV and turned up at the Vale on Tuesday night, were treated to success stories from the press campaign, letter-writing, expert activity, leafleting, the website, and much more. Some folk were surprised just how much work is underway to stop this destructive scheme. Our chair David Gate led the charge with a confident report on the year, and for his sins, he and the rest of the Committee were unanimously re-elected to carry on the good work for another year. David had the satisfaction of reporting that the County Council's plans have stalled following the efforts of TSLM and many other objectors to the plan. The event also proved to be a fundraising success, and more people are now coming forward to join the various working groups. In its first year, TSLM has grown into one of the leading groups of its kind in the UK and its approach is now a benchmark example to other groups around the Country. Certainly the Northern Route has been poorly planned, and the County Council has handled the matter badly, but this should not detract from the determined and professional efforts of all of the people involved at TSLM. Make no mistake, the County Council has been stopped in its tracks, and we have demonstrated very clearly that the road does nothing for local congestion, it destroys our environment, and there are many alternatives. TSLM, together with many other opponents of the lame scheme, are now out to finish it off! Make sure that you join us: 2006 is going to be very eventful. |
